Speech by Ambassador Osman Koray Ertaş on the Occasion of the 95th Anniversary of the Victory Day
Honorable Ministers, Excellences, Generals,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thank you all for joining us today while we celebrate the Victory Day. This year we mark the 95th anniversary of the battle of Turkish War of Independence led by the great commander and founding father of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
This was a victory built on the bravery and sacrifices of the Turkish men and women. This was a success that paved the way for the foundation of modern Turkeyas an independent, democratic and secular Republic.
Today as we proudly celebrate this historic day, we remember once again with deep gratitude the architects of this victory Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades and the idealist cadres of the young Republic. We honor the memory of all heroes and martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and homeland. We remain true to their ideal to build a democratic, secular, and prosperous country.
The challenges we face on this path do not weaken our resolve and strength. Indeed it was this resolve that enabled us to overcome last year’s heinous FETO coup attempt. Being aware of the challenges that lie ahead, we will continue to work harder for a brighter future for our country and nation.
We will also continue to join forces with our allies and partners to achieve common objectives and fight common threats.
Romania, in this respect, remains a valuable ally, a close neighbour and a strategic partner. For years now, we have both been reaping the benefits of the existing close cooperation between our countries. Thanks to joint efforts, Romania today stands as the largest trading partner of Turkey in the Balkans and an investment hub for the Turkish businesses. Both countries act as stability and security providers in their wider regions. Our militaries maintain close contacts and cooperation. Strong bonds exist between our peoples supported by shared cultural and social traits. Turkish-Tatar minority of Romania continues to be a strong factor that cements our relations. We both have the mutual commitment to further the existing strong ties and cooperation.
In concluding, let me honor once again the memory of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, all our heroes and martyrs with utmost respect and gratitude.
Now, allow me to address in Turkish to our citizens and members of the Turkish-Tatar community.
